  • From Selfishness to Selflessness

    Selfishness is the basis of all immoral and corrupt practices that is prevalent in our society. Our worldly desires make us self centered and to fulfill them we focus on self interest and in the process we acquire selfishness. Main cause of selfishness is that we only think about our own interests and comforts. Selfishness starts getting into the background whe we think about others, there problems and what we can do to reduce them.  Selfishness is the biggest impurity is us which does not permit us to look beyond our own self. Once we are rooted in selfishness we move away from truth and at the same time show very little truth respect for others and their opinions. Swami Vivekananda had once remarked that what is selfish is immoral and that which is unselfish is moral, People are selfish due to wrong understanding that if their desires are met they can be happy for ever. They fail to realize that the main end of life is not the pursuit of material happiness. It is in the pursuit of eternal happiness which has nothing to do with material happiness. It is obtained by looking inwards to realize our spiritual destiny. (more…)

  • Regarding Death

    More To Me

    You know how sometimes, a random past moment glides in?  In the midst of cleaning out my wardrobe, memory of my mother’s eyes crinkled with laughter suddenly came into focus.  She had been telling me a story.  Long ago as a kid, she’d been out walking.  Ahead of her, cool and fuzzy blue-grey shifted into brilliant and sharp white.  Made her blink.  Tracing the dazzle to its source – a rooftop – she was convinced it had to be made of gold.  Short-socked feet running, she got close and stared.  Then frowned.  The amazing glow was no longer there.  And immediately she realised and felt sheepish.  There’d been no gold; it was just tin flirting in the sun!  Naive maybe, but she was only very young when this happened.  As I remember our sitting together that time, deepest human sorrow tries to invade again, because my mother died not so long ago.  But then her girlhood meeting with illusion helps return a quiet smile.  For it also reminds me that ‘looking again’ may go on to reveal the greatest illusion of all – within death itself.     Service to mankind means expressing concern for others, caring for others and providing help to the needy. Service or Seva is one of the ideals of Indian culture and heritage. Showing concern for others is essential for human development as it expands our vision which promotes social health. As per Indian thoughts to serve society is a means to reach God. Spirit of service refines our inner energies which can be directed towards a noble cause. Service attitude moves us away from selfishness and at the same time we acquire virtues like purity of mind, love and sincerity. That is why it is said that when you get an opportunity to serve others it should be regarded as Divine grace.  It is  our humble duty  to make a difference to some once life through our service. When we serve others without any personal motive we demolish our personal ego leading to peacefulness of mind and a sense of togetherness. (more…)

Upanishad says “Silence is Brahman, Ultimate Reality is Brahman, Atma is pure silence, Ultimate Reality being beyond speech, silence is the only way of expressing it”.   • Who Were You In Your Past Lifetimes?

    The legendary American mystic from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Edgar Cayce, gave approximately 2500 life or reincarnation readings for some 2000 different individuals. Needless to say, most of them were delighted to receive information on their previous incarnations, and a few were startled to discover their past connections to historical individuals and events.

    Mrs. 5373 was one of the last people to be granted a life reading from the very-ill Edgar Cayce, who would shortly after suffer a stroke which would ultimately result in his death six months later. Her friend, Mrs. 808, had received twenty medical and past-life readings from Edgar, so Mrs. 5373 had some idea of what she might discover from her past, but the results certainly propelled her into the startled minority.   • Building Up Self Esteem

    Self esteem means feeling good about one self. It is an understanding that we are worth something regardless of criticism, blame or adverse judgment by others on us. Self esteem is the belief that that we have the potential to do something good in whatever condition we are placed. It is a feeling of self worth which convinces us that we can contribute towards the well being of others. Self esteem is a firm belief on our personal values on which we stand like a rock without any compromise. When we build up self esteem we do not require any certificate from others as to how good we are. At our ordinary level of existence we feel better when people tell us what we want to hear about ourselves. We all waste part of our life in attempting to display those qualities which we do not possess. Swami Vivekananda goes to the extent to say that nine-tenth of our life energy is spent in trying to make people think which we are not. But when we develop self esteem we do not order our life based on the opinion of others and we stay natural as we are. With self esteem we stay out of artificiality and do not regulate our life to please others. (more…)

  • Positive Attitude enriches life

    Our life is shaped by our thoughts. Man is essentially what his thoughts are. If we think positively our attitude towards life would be positive. But when we have a negative outlook, our life would become a closed chapter. A person who thinks positive sends out positive thoughts around which activates his environment and he also draws back positive vibration. This is the law of attraction which says what we broadcast into environment we would given more of it. It we give vibration of love through our thoughts, words and deeds we would be given more of love. Positiveness gives rise to tremendous evolution inside our being where everything else becomes secondary. A positive person finds acceptance everywhere. On the other hand our negative thoughts often involve us going back into our past where we remember those events of life which have not been favorably inclined towards us. Our aim should be to remove negatively from our life of whatever type it may be. Negative thoughts containing anger, fear, self ego, doubts, regrets, and sadness, drain away our energy and make us lazy. One should live in present without thinking of the past and without worrying for the future. When we invest in the present, we look after our future as well. We can follow certain guidelines which can assist us in removing negatively from our mind and help us to stay in a positive state. (more…)
