  • Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

From the vast collective literary output of mankind very few works are worthy of the epithet classic. Robert Pirsig’s 1974 semi-autobiographical(?) Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (ZMM) is one of the few – a true modern classic.

Essentially ZMM consists of three distinct but interwoven stories. Superficially it is a travelogue, about a man – the un-named narrator – motorcycling across the United States with his somewhat troubled son, Chris; for the first part of the journey they are joined by friends, the couple John and Sylvia Sutherland. It is also the story of a man haunted by a “ghost”, that turns out to be his former self. Finally, as suggested by the subtitle, An Inquiry Into Values, ZMM is a discussion on philosophy inspired by the cultural upheaval of the time (epitomized by the counter-culture and hippie scenes) concluding that a re-discovery of quality is the key to the re-harmonization of an increasingly dichotomous society. • Happiness and Acceptance (the Cessation of Struggle)

The pursuit of happiness only fuels unhappiness. In trying to be happy many people strive for a better job, bigger house, faster car and all kinds of various other crap. If they don’t get all they want it makes them unhappy. If they do get it they find it makes them less happy than they thought and/or the novelty soon wears off and so they chase after yet more materialist crap. But, unlike how we get conditioned from birth, doesn’t real happiness come when we stop struggling – against the world and our circumstances – and simply accept things as they are. Then we start to appreciate all the small stuff that’s really satisfying, apply our efforts to things that really matter, and stop trying for crap that can never satisfy.

  • What is Ouija?

The Ouija board is a divinatory tool, much like astrology, numerology, tarot, palm-reading, crystal-gazing etc. Just like all tools its purpose is to make it possible/easier to achieve something. A drill helps you hang shelves, tools of divination like the Ouija help you re-connect with your
    Spiritual source. (more…)

  • Goal Setting and Purpose

Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you’re alive, it isn’t. Richard Bach

    Purpose and Goals

Life can be likened to a journey, with its purpose corresponding to the destination. The sense of purpose is so essential that without it we’d struggle to climb out of bed in the morning, for without purpose there’d be no reason. But our purpose is way more complex than getting to New York Grand Central. (more…)

  • Spiritual Parenting

Being a parent is probably the greatest privilege, and responsibility, we can have during our earth life. A new born baby is a paradox. The Spirit within that helpless bundle is ancient, but its earthly incarnation is a blank page waiting to be written upon by its experiences, with the earliest experiences carrying the greatest influence throughout its life.

Before birth our Spirit decides, along with our guides, what circumstances we will be born into and what lessons we will seek during this particular lifetime. And then we find ourselves upon earth, the knowledge of our true Spiritual nature temporarily obscured so that we might best fulfill our chosen purpose. Life is the ultimate experience of learning by discovery. (more…)

  • When Will We Ever Learn?

The history of mankind makes for depressing reading. It is a story of recurrent conflict between different groupings with the mightier invariably exploiting or eliminating his less able neighbor. Looking around the world, wars continue to rage; the only difference is that the means of destruction have grown exponentially more horrific.

It takes no great leap of imagination to view mankind simply as clothed animals, and indeed whenever any account of particular depravity comes to light it is common to hear the perpetrators described as animals. But this is an insult to the animal kingdom, which though often savage, acts only from the instinctive drive for survival; ie bears kill to eat, men kill for fun. (more…)

  • British government release UFO files

The BBC reports that the British Ministry of Defence today released a large numbers of reports of UFO sightings between 1985 and 2007, including those from official sources such as Air Force pilots.

It’s likely the majority have rational explanations, but might some be evidence of extra-terrestrial, or even Spiritual, phenomena?

The reports can be downloaded from http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

  • The Basics of Expanding Consciousness

By Jaden Rose Phoenix, Author of Beyond Human: Claiming the Power and Magic of Your Limitless Self

    Begin Where You Can Begin

There is always more than one route to the outcome you are seeking. However, to keep it simple, we will only explore a couple of starting points here. To allow your mind access to “other worlds,” you might find it useful to have your left brain agree that experiencing unseen worlds is a possibility, a possibility that even you can have access to.

Start from the premise that there is evidence — scientific evidence even — that energies are present that you cannot see or feel or smell. (more…)

  • In-depth observations on eye floaters – a challenge to ophthalmology

    By Floco Tausin

For centuries, scholars try to find an explanation for the mobile, scattered and transparent spheres and strings in our visual field. Early on in ophthalmological tradition, the origin was thought to be in the eye. The phenomenon was considered a disorder or degeneration somewhere between cornea and retina. Today, eye floaters are believed to be an opacity of the vitreous. However, careful observation of floaters reveals properties that challenge this dominant view and call for a reconsideration of the ophthalmological explanation.  (more…)

  • What are our Duties in Life?

By Lt Col R K Langar

Lord Krishna states in Bhagavad Gita that man attains perfection by performing his allotted duties in a spirit of sacrifice which means without bothering for the fruit of actions, without attachment and even without the feeling that I am the doer of actions. When  your offer the fruit of your actions to God and also its doer ship then your work becomes worship of God. With actions performed in this manner one attains purity of mind which is a prerequisite for gaining progress in the spiritual path. Man has to perform certain obligatory duties while living in the world which are listed below. (more…)
