The Reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson

The birth of a first child is always a monumental occasion for every family. Mr. 391 and Mrs. 934 of Virginia Beach, Virginia, were no exception. They named their newborn son Thomas Jefferson .... , after Mr.391's late father, Thomas Jefferson .... . Mr.391 was a relative of Gladys Davis, the long-time secretary and stenographer for Virginia Beach's renowned mystic, Edgar Cayce, and it should come as no great surprise that the new parents requested a reincarnation or past-life reading for their two-day-old pride-and-joy, who would soon become affectionately known as T.J.  Here are the surprise revelations from that day's reading.

"2. ... if there are the developments through the environs, it may be seen that THIS entity - [1208] - may become more important in the affairs of the WORLD than this entity in its previous experience has been to America - Thomas Jefferson. 17. Before this, ... the entity lived in the earth during those periods when there were the turmoils in that known as the Revolution, and in the activities of the Colonists. 18. The entity then, as Thomas Jefferson, made these contributions to the activities of the people - that are well known, or may be had through the many references that may be drawn upon by those seeking to know. [Yrs. 1743-1826] 19. But rather seek to know the BASIC FORCES that DIRECTED same. For the inventive genius that PROMPTED the activities of the entity then, the curious nature that made for the many oppositions that arose in the experience, are those things that are indicated in the two natures that apparently will be in the developing period of the entity's activities. 20. Hence in the application of same, not because of "HE WAS" but because these may be USED, there should be the correct guidance and training in his formative years. For as a great landowner will the entity be if it reaches the years of its majority." As if being the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson was not a big enough weight to carry on his shoulders, another most-significant previous incarnation was also revealed for T.J. "26. Before that we find the entity was in that land during those periods when there were the activities that made for the rise and fall of many lands, in the Grecian, the Persian, all of the eastern lands; when THAT entity now known as Alexander the Great made for the conquering forces of the earth - the depleting that there might bring to self the exaltations. [356-323 B.C.] " [DS: Reading 1208-1.]

Unfortunately for T.J., his childhood and teenage years were far from ideal. Mr.391 and Mrs.934 married each other twice, and divorced twice. T.J. was shuffled around from the home of one relative to another. Gladys Davis had lived with Edgar and Gertrude Cayce for many years as the daughter they never had, and one of T.J's most stable environments was when he lived with Gladys, off-and-on over some twenty years, intermittently as the son Gladys would never have. T.J. therefore lived in the Cayce home with Gladys during parts of his younger years, before Gladys moved into T.J.'s parents former residence in Virginia Beach. Edgar grew very fond of T.J. Here are some snippets from the Edgar Cayce archives.

"The Sec'ty [Gladys Davis] who lives with us went home and it was the first time she had been home for Christmas in 15 yrs., so guess a new era is coming up. A couple from here, [DS: Mr. 391 and Mrs. 934] with their baby boy [DS: T.J.], are spending the holidays in Cleveland. We all think as much of the baby as if he were our own, almost, and really missed him, ..." [464-20 Reports, R3. EC's letter.]  "Had a poser for me the other day - was reading to T.J. about Naaman being healed or being sick and coming to Elisha, he looked up at me and said, 'Kakee [Cakey], he should come get a reading, that would cure him, like it does me.' " [1788-4 Reports, R3. EC Letter to [480]:]  A number of medical readings had been requested for T.J. by his parents or Gladys, and T.J. had been present for some of these.  "...our Secy [GD], has charge of [DS: T.J.], who is here with us most of the time, ..." [2587-2 Reports, R4. EC's letter to [2808]:]  "[DS: T.J.] has gone to Tex. to live - [DS: Miss Gladys] has had him for last two months and makes it bad for her. Hope he keeps well - we are all crazy about him "Thomas Jefferson". " [1770-4 R2. EC's letter to Mrs. [1770]:]

After the death of Edgar Cayce on January 3, 1945, Gladys remained employed by Edgar's Association For Research And Enlightenment in Virginia Beach. Gladys and Edgar's eldest son, Hugh Lynn, were responsible for the survival of the A.R.E. over the early, post-Edgar-Cayce years, and Gladys was responsible for cataloging and organizing the over 14,000 saved readings for the use of researchers all over the world. We are fortunate that Gladys also saw fit to retain, in the Edgar Cayce files, correspondence and notes from or concerning T.J.'s early adult years.  I will share a few of these with you.

"[DS: Gladys] reported that [1208] had enlisted in the Marine Corps for four years. The recruiting officer told her husband that [1208] made the highest mark of anyone they had in ..., Va., ..." [1208-1, Reports, R39, 2/55.]  "Mother rec'd this letter [written on high seas]: "Seems like everything I ever did I completed only by the skin of my teeth. That, my dear Mother, will cease. When I start college I will have prepared myself to such an extent that there will be no stoppers or detours. I'm going straight to the top. I will be the greatest thing in law since 'ole Thomas Jefferson himself." "[1208-1, Reports, R42, 2/13/57]  "He got married to a lovely little girl of Jewish parentage, ...  They were married in the synagogue. Mrs. [288] thought perhaps her Jewish parents and home life reminded him nostalgically of his happy childhood days with his half-Jewish cousins and their father who had been like a father to him." [1208-1, Reports, R52, 2/13/60.] "He started a correspondence course in law with LaSalle University Extension ..." [1208-1, Reports, R53, 2/9/61]  "[288] wrote ...  [Baby son was born 2/22/62, Washington's birthday!] When the baby was a few weeks old they moved back to her parents' and the law studies ended; no space or quietness for study." [1208-1, Reports, R54.]  "[288] reported: "[1208] and his wife have been legally separated for several months now; he leads a vagabond existence, often following art and jazz festivals, ..." " [1208-1, Reports, R63, 8/26/65]  "[DS: 288's] letter: "[1208] got married Sat. to [...]. He seems very happy. ... He says, 'She loves me the way I am and won't try to change me.' " " [1208-1, Reports, R67, 10/28/66.]  "His wife [...] gave birth to their baby son in ..., Ky." [1208-1, Reports, R69, 7/9/67.]  "He and his wife separated and were subsequently divorced." [1208-1, Reports, R70, 8/68]  "He visited A.R.E., ... He announced that he was going to Greece - he wanted to spend the winter there." [1208-1, Reports, R74, 9/2/70.]  "He wrote: "I'm in a small fishing village on the Aegean Sea [postmarked Mykonos]. It's here, I'm told, that Alexander used to play as a child, the most beautiful place on earth. No wonder it's produced so many men of genius." [1208-1, Reports, R76, 9/13/70.]  Do not forget T.J.'s earlier incarnation as Alexander The Great.   "He wrote: ... I ran into a friend of mine ... from Norfolk, Va. He came to Mykonos for a few days ... It's a school for linguists and international law. He convinced me to take the entrance examination and I was stone sure I couldn't pass it. ... Anyway, I did really super. Imagine that! So, I enrolled, and applied for the G.I. Bill." [1208-1, Reports, R77, 10/8/70]

Now you know the early portion of the story of the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander The Great!
