God appears in surprising form in this open-minded approach to spirituality

ELDRED, PENN. – If you could ask God just one question, face to face, what would it be? A new book gives readers the chance to take a journey with an ordinary man as he encounters God in the form of various passed celebrities.

In his inaugural book God Took His Coffee Black, author G.W. Drum brings readers to an old-time diner on a snowy Christmas Eve where Jerry gets a visit from God. Over the next year, he receives monthly visits from God in celebrity form, each famous identity one surprise after the next. During this time, Jerry is enlightened with knowledge to help him look at God and spirituality from a new perspective.

“I would like to think that it would be a big help to a spiritually searching world,” says Drum. “There are so many seekers who have questions that they aren’t getting the answers to.”

Addressing controversial topics such as the nature of heaven, Jesus’ marital status and the effects of organized religion, Drum also proposes the idea that there is no hell or Satan.

Maintaining that God is not a judgmental, vindictive entity, God Took His Coffee Black considers if society or God decide the notion of “right and wrong” and if death and destruction result from God’s displeasure with the world.

“My hope is that with all of the hype over the thought of the world ending in 2012, readers will get some comfort from my writing,” says Drum. “The world needs something positive to grab on to.”

As the son of a retired Lutheran minister and a former church deacon himself, Drum uses his own background and experience to touch on various issues regarding religion. Combining elements of surprise and controversy, God Took His Coffee Black takes an open-minded approach to spirituality to create an inspirational, entertaining read.

“I haven’t forgotten my religious upbringing,” says Drum. “I have just found a more comfortable way to look at God.”
