5 Stages of Spiritual Awakening

In this article, we will be briefly exploring five stages of spiritual development. By being able to identify critical moments in our transcendental journey, we will be able to dive deeper into the unconscious and use it as a resource for understanding ourselves.

Just as our consciousness is only the tip of the iceberg, it is crucial to understand that our spiritual journey forms part of our growth as human beings. Given that we can know which tier we're currently in, we will have the capability to go higher.

As such, here are the five key stages for spiritual awakening

Stage 1: Survival

Being human necessitates that we can push further and survive. While we can do this physically by having more money or status in life, we may still begin feeling that constant distress. Why so?

This is because we recognize that such material things aren't all that matters. While a person with an empty stomach is unable to meditate about life, being able to survive the challenges of the external world opens up the possibility of examining the internal world for us.

Stage 2: Recognition

The moment you reach this stage, it presupposes that you have less concern for the outside world. Upon realizing that man does not live on bread alone, you turn your focus into understanding deeper what is within you.

Such a moment signifies a drastic shift of perspective, where your concern lies not only on the things that money can buy but also the things that it can't. Upon realizing this, you will see that there's more to life.

Stage 3: Reflection

Understanding that we’re more than mere flesh and skin challenges us to reflect. Why am I here? Why was I born in the first place? What is my life’s purpose? Such life-defining questions can only be answered given that we’re able to somehow surmise the challenges of the first and second stages.

By way of reflection, we can see ourselves and assess at a distance where we are currently. Such a tedious yet endless process challenges us to dig deeper and know more about who we are and why we are here.

Stage 4: Immersion

Just as we can reflect, we are also now facing the challenge of immersing ourselves. Whether it is your traditional religion or some New Age practice that prompts this action, the fact is you are going way more in-depth in your spiritual journey. Aside from being prepared and equipped, you are now ready to embark deeper within yourself.

As such, it is in this stage that you get to recognize where you are right now, and what you are doing to make your spirituality grow. Are you tapping enough unto the unconscious?

Stage 5: Transcendence

In this fifth stage, you are finally going beyond yourself and into the realm of the unconscious. Filled with mystery and mysticism, the unconscious contains parts of the whole which can be alienated from us. Historic signals, perpetual phrases and ideas, and even immortal images are easily stored in the unconscious, whose access requires going beyond one’s consciousness.

By tapping onto this stage, we go higher and more profound in understanding ourselves and our spiritual journey.

As such, which stage do you think you're in right now? Are you stuck on stage two? What do you need to move forward? Answers to these questions are mostly identified in your spontaneous spiritual journey ahead.
