Summary - Have you ever thought about the lurking beneficial properties of Trekking? Read the blog to discover how trekking can help you to change your own behavior.

There are infinite ways to react to statements, to actions, to consequences, to results, to people, but we choose our own way. Why wouldn't you? After all, we all have the right to enjoy the freedom of our speech and expression.

Your gestures may or may not hurt the other person, but it will surely give them a reason to remember you for a long-term. It could either be a sour or a sweet memory. Since you cannot please everybody on this planet, you can at least try to put your best foot forward. Even though you are not accustomed to being liked by everyone, your social behavior somewhere affects your own mental health.

This blog post is not directing you towards being socially-acceptable; instead it's revealing the natural characteristics which you and the mountains can have in common.

How does Trekking help to change your behavior?

The way you behave is the outcome of your values, achievements, experiences in the past, or how you were treated. There is only one way to find out whether you have crossed boundaries or not- if your act is not just hurting others but also you, then you may want to change a few qualities which even you don’t like about yourself.

To simplify:

Don’t hurt your soul by hurting others!

When we talk about trekking, we usually think about the mountains, cliffs, paragliding, waterfalls, camping, slippery narrow-lanes, and of course tour-guides! What you do not think about before starting the trek is the in-between landscapes no one discusses. Living it at the moment is what trekkers really embrace, which is why they don't need extra charged batteries for their camera on every trip. Either you will be too tired or too mesmerized by the place that you wouldn't feel the need to always click.

Trekking can change you in ways you could have never imagined - the ability to let go off depression to forming an ace personality.

“Mountains have a way of dealing with overconfidence”. ~ Hermann Buhl

Climbing up a ladder is a lot different than climbing up a mountain; from long-jumps to baby-steps, from laughing to suddenly gasping air. There will be a lot of visible changes in your behavior. Let your friend’s be the judge! As you move forward, step by step, you will come across many phases of you, some of which would encourage you to give up instantly. You will dodge that feeling not once, not twice, but probably 100 more times. That in itself is a feeling of accomplishment to stick to your plan, and not escape. Your fellow mates would also be tired after a certain point of time, losing their ability to boost others. From that moment, the only driving force you will end up having would be- You! Not many steps later you will start unfolding the capabilities of controlling a human mind, and the natural push your inner-strength gives you.

Absurd thoughts which will make you question yourself will pop up like, ‘Is it really worth it?’ ‘What am I really doing here?’, ‘Why would I risk my life?’ The thought of not moving ahead and not finishing the journey is in itself a depressing thought you would mark a loser would do. An easy way out is to give up, but the views from up the hills will make you thirsty for an even better view. Hydration bags may be empty but a feeling of groundedness would be filled with joy, just by observing the still behavior of the mountains, and by bonding with the strangers. The sudden transition of becoming an extrovert from an introvert may not even be distinguishable.

Aman shares his trekking experience, “I went for Trekking in Nepal with my best friend, right after finishing my third semester, to add an unforgettable journey in my travel journal. When you start a trek like the Annapurna Base Camp Trekking in Nepal, you are aware of the beforehand safety and the required training one need to go through. I was way too excited for this one and it changed how I look at the world now like it's an exquisite delicacy."

“From the moment I started the trek, to the point of departure, I couldn’t believe how quiet yet internally-energized I had become. My moment of Nirvana was when I did not give up, kept going on to be surrounded in snow-clad mountains just to achieve my goal to visually enchant myself with the mesmerizing views of Annapurna Massif. I just couldn’t utter a word when I realized that a tortoise walk can make you a man of your word, only if you don’t lose yourself to the difficulties mountains throw at you.”

Winds may try to say otherwise by swishing into your eyes, but your will becomes stronger and stronger with every tree you go through. Cramps won't matter to you as you will lose the frustration of not having enough sources or the best equipment along the way. The feeling of having no choice, but to keep marching ahead will gently set in. Self-acceptance, self-motivation, and the beauty of nature will please you eventually as you will find yourself in control, more humble, and kind towards others. A shot of refreshment, enlightenment towards the beauty of noticing details, nature will warmly welcome you to taste the serenity. Reaching a stage where you are no longer concerned about the destination, but only the journey. The absence of food/tea stalls won't let you lose your calm, that ego won't kick-in as the ‘road less traveled by' teaches you what's more important in life.

Whether it’s the people, animals, birds, or species, they shall recognize you based on your behavior (or smell). You know, Ellen tries her best to tell the world that ‘be kind to one another’, but has she succeeded? After a tiring journey of watching hawks below your eyesight level, helping random people out,  crawling up the rocks, asking for favors, you will find yourself at the destination you desired for, for so long, for hours, days, or a month. You wouldn't be more proud of yourself! A feeling of victory will reside in by giving you more confidence to take on your future.

Behavioral changes are a result of your actions, your thoughts. Go for a trek in the woods because nature can teach you what humans cannot.
