Winning the Lottery

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to win a lottery? What opportunities would your good fortune bring? How would it change your life?

Just imagine for a moment you won a lottery with an incredible prize of eighty-six thousand a day, every day, for life... The only condition being that you had to spend the prize each day, you couldn't carry anything over. Would that be a blessing? Or a challenge?

Now stop imagining, because that lottery is life itself, and you've already won 1st prize, though it isn't delivered in dollars but in seconds. 86,400 is the number of seconds we are each of us gifted, each and every day. 86,400 opportunities to be spent entirely in the manner of our choosing.

Admittedly, life doesn't always feel like a lottery win. Its pathway holds many twists and turns, many surprises, not all of which are pleasant. The journey isn't meant to be easy. But just as material lottery winners soon tire of lazing on a beach sipping cocktails, true fulfilment comes from facing challenges and transforming them into learning opportunities.

Despite the problems in your life, and rest assured problems are common to everyone, every moment does bring unique opportunity - to be happy, to find satisfaction, to contribute, to create, to leave your mark, to help another, to achieve, to experience, to reflect, to learn, to grow... And, because we all have free will, it also has the potential to pass unspent.

To exist in this world at all is to open oneself to both pleasure and pain. The opportunities for pleasure are many, but so are the potentials for pain. But in the final reckoning to simply be alive is an immense privilege that outweighs greater than any lottery win in the world.
