Difference between Teacher & Master?
abracad, · Categories: externally authored, spiritualitySeeker: Bhagavanji, What is the difference between a teacher & a master…? How can I find the real master…?
Buddhashiva always says that “A teacher is a parrot & the master is a carrot…†(no offence to anyone who is a teacher or a master).
The other saying of Buddhashiva is that “A teacher is a connecter & the master is connectivity…â€.
He also says that everyone is a teacher unless they convert the teachings (DHARMA) into mastery…
There is a lot of wisdom behind these quotes, but you need to be unbiased to understand the deeper meanings behind it.
Don’t say this quote in front of your teacher or whom you feel your master…you might be taken to task.(joking)
In spiritual terms a teacher is a philosopher or a scholar, who is having the supreme knowledge of the ancient scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita, Quran, Upanishads, Vedas etc. but does not have a little bit of wisdom in incorporating the same in his life.
He will be quoting all the slokas, dohas, vachanas with full ease, which makes the other feel so dumb of themselves.
He would be a super computer working at the maximum speed to answer your questions within a fraction of a second.
But unfortunately, you will never understand…There is a saying in kannada “Meshtru mareyalla…Hudugara thalege hathalla…†which means that “The teacher never forgets… & The students never understandâ€.
This is true with the teachers of spirituality, where the illogical is explained in various ways with full spice to the seekers…resulting in the seekers running away from the path or becoming a new breed of scholarly teachers.
The more the seeker gets knowledge about the unknown…the more they will be falling into the pitfalls of spirituality.
A small story heard by one of the seekers might be of some help to understand the logic behind being illogically logical…(quite confusing)
He was a teacher, scholar, philosopher & a staunch believer of GOD. He was travelling in a small ferry to reach the other shore. He was the only passenger in the ferry and was a nuisance to the owner of the ferry…he was talking about the Vedas & the Upanishads to the ferryman constantly without a break.
He also started talking about swimming & was explaining the ferryman about different styles of swimming ranging from breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, synchronized swimming etc…Suddenly there was a deluge & the ferry began to sink.
The scholar started chanting some mantras & the puzzled ferryman asked him what was going on…The scholar replied “We have mantras for each problem, listed in the Vedas…right from getting back a lost cow to getting lost by being cowed. I’m chanting a mantra to stop the deluge, so that we can cross the river safely.â€
The ferryman was really astonished to listen to the scholar’s statement & questioned further as to how it really happens. The scholar replied…â€The Vedas are given by gods themselves & it is 10000 yrs old & we are following it from 10000 yrs. We trust it in & out, coz’ it is the secret knowledge possessed only by a few.â€
The ferryman was still more puzzled by hearing about the secret knowledge…he continued the conversation…â€You seem to be smart & updated…how come you have still not updated yourself from the teachings, which might have been relevant 10000 yrs ago. You mean to say that the technology stated in the secret books, behind a happy living is still relevant today. Is Child marriage, rituals, sati system (wife dying along with husband) still relevant today…â€
The scholar felt his foolishness in trusting something without questioning & was seeing his death nearing by… as he was not knowing swimming. The ferryman was also feeling the need of jumping off from the boat…He meekly said to the scholar “You need to master the art of living…but not master the art of LEAVINGâ€
He swam across the river & the scholar felt the futility of chants…HE DIED, chillingly.
Now comes the master who is been referred to as a carrot…The true master is a carrot by himself, where he shows it… but never gives it. He has the wisdom, knowhow & the support of consciousness, which makes him a master.
He shows that he has everything mentioned above in a subtle manner but…when you go near him to want more… he refrains from giving you.
Don’t worry…he will make you find the carrot in yourself where you can relish on it throughout your lifetime.
A true master creates mastery inside you, where you will know firsthand about your talks, acts & the way you are living…This can happen only when you convert what is been learnt wontedly or unwontedly into true knowing.
This is a time consuming process where your real passion, dedication & sincerity will be at stake. This can also be termed as SADHANA…
No one will do the homework for you & no one can do the sadhana for you…this is the real reason why you find it hard to find true seekers.
It is painstaking… but, only the ones who have transcended to the higher planes of consciousness are ready to take up the challenge of mastering the art of knowing… by unlearning.
The true masters never teach…but will make the seeker to learn the art of mastering life in many unique ways.
The true master has to be inside you, who must always be persistent on knowing what is not been known…The master who is in the world is just an enticing entity who knows that he can drive you towards your self…or your master.
Only a person who has tasted the divine nectar of bliss can bring new things into existence…coz’ he is new all time, anytime.
He never takes the scriptures as an authority to convey the art…but he becomes an art, where creativity will be taking the best out of him in his every move.
A master in the world has to be found by the master inside yourself…if not you will be catered by the teachers without your knowledge… anywhere…everywhere.
The easiest way to understand the difference between a teacher & a master is to see deep down yourself…you will find your thoughts arguing, chattering, fighting, desiring, fearing etc.
The thoughts are teachers who are repeating what is been taught.
You will also see something inside yourself seeing all these stupid things happening…That is silence or awareness or integrated awareness or choice less awareness.
You have to know that silent entity inside yourself… who is the master.
Don’t make any effort to know it… coz’ all efforts are of the teacher trying to become a master…
You can also see the teacher in everyone around you…just see whatever they talk & be with the silence behind it.
Everyone’s master is the same… be silent to understand silence, let the chattering happen. Love being with the teacher of yourself & the others…slowly you will fall back to your self.
This art has to be mastered…only then you will become a master. No one will certify you that you are a master…but all certificates become futile once you master the art of knowing… the teacher.
You will never teach in your life…if you become a master, coz’… MASTERY
EXPRESSES THRU’……… YOU J.
Excerpts from Seekers Dairy of Bhagavanji.

Learning has no barriers…
But…
You have to overcome the barricade of the learned to be…
LEARNING.
