Poker Tournaments and Purpose

abracad, · Categories: purpose

Poker, like life, is a game of both skill and luck. If you enter a tournament many things are beyond your control: the opponents you'll be grouped with, the hands you'll be dealt, and the tactics you'll face.

In life, many things are beyond your control: the circumstances into which you are born, your own unique characteristics, and the various circumstances you'll face throughout the journey. (more…)

Empowerment through Surrender, Awakening and Divine Love

by Dawn MacIntyre

Making most of our time here on earth is not difficult but does require us to develop certain states of mind as well as the higher qualities of our soul.  This includes empowering ourselves to succeed and enjoy life, learning to trust and surrender to a higher power, our Divine Selves, and stop trying to do everything by ourself from the place of our personality and finally, becoming fully awakened by developing higher states of being.

How can I transform my victim mentality to one of authentic empowerment and truly succeed in all areas of my life? (more…)

Hawking's Godless Universe

or Why do Seagulls Exist?

The BBC reports English physicist Professor Stephen Hawking's latest book The Grand Design concluding there is no place for God in theories on the creation of the Universe, with Big Bang merely an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics. Hawking says there is no need to invoke God to set the Universe going, "Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something."

I have enormous respect for Prof. Hawking who, despite suffering Motor neurone (Lou Gehrig's) disease, has become a leading cosmologist and made theoretical physics accessible to the masses through classic bestsellers such as a Brief History of Time. However, I am inclined to suggest that the existence or otherwise of God is a matter that science is ill-equipped to answer. There is a limit or hidden layer beyond which the tools of science cannot penetrate; eg even if existence is an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics one might ask how those laws came about in the first place? From Selfishness to Selflessness

abracad, · Categories: externally authored, purpose

By Lt Col RK Langar

Selfishness is the basis of all immoral and corrupt practices that is prevalent in our society. Our worldly desires make us self centered and to fulfill them we focus on self interest and in the process we acquire selfishness. Main cause of selfishness is that we only think about our own interests and comforts. Selfishness starts getting into the background whe we think about others, there problems and what we can do to reduce them.  Selfishness is the biggest impurity is us which does not permit us to look beyond our own self. Once we are rooted in selfishness we move away from truth and at the same time show very little truth respect for others and their opinions. Swami Vivekananda had once remarked that what is selfish is immoral and that which is unselfish is moral, People are selfish due to wrong understanding that if their desires are met they can be happy for ever. They fail to realize that the main end of life is not the pursuit of material happiness. It is in the pursuit of eternal happiness which has nothing to do with material happiness. It is obtained by looking inwards to realize our spiritual destiny. (more…)

(or: one possible answer to wherefore?)

by Daniel di Primio

This essay shall intend to find an explanation for the many questions concerning life, existence, and reason with the help of a hiddenly active "godly" or transcendental force, in order to offer a possible meaningfully establishing onset for the solution of the "Conditio Humana" - the consciousness of eventually having to die - respectively of being able to resolve this condition without fear. What Is Human Life All About?

abracad, · Categories: externally authored, purpose

BY: LT COL. R.K. LANGAR

One way of looking at life is that man enters the world from one door and leaves it from another. Man enters the world when he is born, he grows up, get educated, obtains a job for his living, gets married, brings up children, gets old and leaves the world by an other door at the end of his life span is this a correct way to describe human life. Those who believe in this way of living live mechanically from birth to death. The fact is that life is much more than a sheer mechanical living. Life provides plenty of adventure and opportunities to those who live every moment of it mindfully. So what exactly is life. We have a few options to describe human life as perceived by our men of wisdom. (more…)

Is Fate Unalterable or Negotiable?

abracad, · Categories: externally authored, purpose

By Lt. Col RK Langar

When things do not happen in life the way we want them to be, there is a temptation to attribute our failure to fate or destiny to derive some consolation out of it. Fate does play a part in man’s life but there is also a free will which a man posses and which enable him to take his work to its highest state of efficiency. Hence we can assume that both Free will and Fate regulate our life. (more…)

Take a Snapshot of Your Soul

abracad, · Categories: purpose, self help, stress, depression, anxiety

"Know then thyself, presume not God to scan; The proper study of mankind is man." So wrote Alexander Pope in the 18th Century. Indeed to know yourself is a lifetime's pursuit, as the light of experience continually exposes new facets of what we are, as well as modifying that which is already known.

Taking a snapshot of your soul can be likened to checking the position of a boat that's been left on autopilot for a while. It involves stepping back from the actual living of daily life, identifying what's important, and as a result maybe tweaking your direction a little. (more…)

Set your spirit free, reconnect with your higher being

abracad, · Categories: externally authored, purpose

by Zelda Botma

The resonance of man has been influenced by the history of mankind, the ego and the quest to be the best in his alien nature of non-discovery of his spiritual reality. The essence of mankind and his quest for perfection is sorely lacking. True power is gained by tapping into his higher self and resonance and truly being the powerful being of his designed creation/nature.  Man has to understand that his energy, power, whether it be physical or mental is the true calling of his inner being and not a self-centered ego-tistical analysis of his being. The Problem with Letting God Decide

abracad, · Categories: purpose, self help

Making decisions is tough. It's bad enough that choices in life are rarely clear-cut. Each option has its own (usually unquantifiable) pros and cons, and making a decision means accepting the cons of your choice as well as foregoing the pros of whatever you reject. (more…)
