To celebrate Armed Forces Day the military base near my seminary held an open house, a public relations extravaganza to improve their image and boost recruiting. They invited the public in for a marching band parade, a precision flying show, and a sky diving demonstration. They even offered free lemonade and cookies.

A subversive seminarian, namely me, decided to disrupt the festivities and remind people that the military's job is murder. (more…)

To Travel Far – the Out of the Body Experience

Do you remember going to sleep or waking from sleep and being unable to move as if paralyzed? This is commonly experienced at the start or end of an out-of-body experience (OBE or OOBE). Back in high school I'd been good at languages but couldn't afford to go to college, so I joined the navy for the language training. They have a program where if you pass an aptitude test, they'll send you to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, for an intensive course that's worth almost a year of college credit. Plus they have an active-duty education program that offers college courses. I figured after my discharge I could finish my education on the GI Bill, and with my language skills, I could get a job in international business. (more…)

Revolution

Society is broken, beyond repair. That's the premise of Russell Brand's bestseller Revolution, a premise that's becoming increasingly difficult to argue against.

For those that don't know Russell Brand is an English-born comedian, actor, author turned political activist who found fame and fortune, descended into drug and alcohol abuse, and has been recovered for some years. Indulging in the various trappings of fame and fortune Brand realized them to be ultimately unsatisfying and has since turned to spirituality to offer both individual meaning and hint at a pathway of salvation for the world. Revolution began after he caused considerable controversy by saying he never voted in elections as mainstream political parties were no more than different varieties of the same thing. (more…)

My then wife, Janine, saw that I had a story in me that needed to come out. I’d been writing other stuff – mostly philosophical essays and things I call Short Pieces, but she noticed that I was still in great awe of the changes I had experienced when I first encountered Rolfing, and Muktananda. At a party, or any other venue where I could find someone interested enough to listen, I would never fail to relate, with great animation (not my normal way), one or more of the magical incidents from the years when I began to wake up. I remember them so vividly!

Johnny Appleseed is an authentic American hero celebrated in film, literature and art. While famous for growing the apple industry, relatively little is known about his accomplishments in the world of spirit.

Based on actual events, this Journal chronicles Johnny’s travels during a period of time in 1843 when he mysteriously went missing. While on his way to a convention at the Church of New Jerusalem in Philadelphia, something transpired and he never arrived. Historically there is no information about why he did not attend.

As a minister Johnny had a spiritual calling and provided apple seedling, a life staple along the frontier, as part of his work. It is rumored that Hudson Valley, New York is the place where Johnny planted a message so that it could be harvested by spiritual travelers in our time. This is his story.

For instance, Isaac carrying the wood for his own death on the pyre and Jesus carrying his cross to his crucifixion; a decree for all boy children to be put to death finds Moses saved in the bull-rushes and a similar decree finds Jesus taken to Egypt for safety. Moses fasted 40 days and nights, as did Jesus. Many incidents in the lives of Adam, Noah, David, Joseph, Isaac, Elijah and others are born out in the New Testament. (more…)
