a guided meditation: the beach

How empty is a life so full it seems we cannot spare a moment for our dreams

Close your eyes and relax.

Just empty your mind of all life's cares.

Take a deep breath, as you do so feel yourself breathing in revitalizing energy and goodness, hold for a moment then breathe out, as you do so get rid of all your doubts and negative thoughts.

Take another deep breath and feel yourself breathing in strength and healing forces, hold and breathe out all your inhibitions and indecision.

Take a third breath, it feels good as you breathe in the power and confidence to fulfill your potential and destiny in every way, breathe out all the fears and weakness of spirit that prevent you from being all you can be.

Visualize yourself on a beach, it's a warm sunny day with a gentle breeze. See the white capped waves breaking on the pebbles, hear them rolling in and out. You walk along the beach, in the distance there's a single sailing boat. You're walking towards a small brick building, overhead some seagulls are calling. The sky is a deep blue and there's just a single cloud. You look at it for a moment and try to imagine what images it shape suggests...

You're almost at the small building now - it resembles a chapel. You walk up the gravel path to the oak door. You push the door, it opens and you step inside. There are some chairs arranged in a circle. The door closes gently behind you. Inside it's cool and still - you can no longer hear the sounds of the beach. You feel very relaxed and peaceful. At the opposite end to the door is a window; the sun is streaming in, casting a pattern of light on the stone floor.

You sit on one of the chairs to rest a while, and as you sit you feel your consciousness being transported upwards, you can see yourself sitting in the circle. You travel through the window and continue upwards, higher and higher passing the seagulls on your way, you can see the little building on the beach and then you can see the whole earth getting smaller and smaller.

You feel so free, the shackles of duty and convention have been cast aside. The earth has now become no more than a dot. You are travelling towards a little brick building, not unlike the one on the beach. You get closer and can read the inscription above the door - the single word "truth".

You enter the building, inside awaits and elderly Oriental gentleman. He beckons you to sit down. You feel you've known him all your life. Not a word is spoken between you but you are able to communicate by telepathy. You can ask the Oriental gentleman anything you want. Ask him some questions and wait for his answers...

It will soon be time to return, you bid the elderly gentleman farewell and leave the hall of truth, safe in the knowledge that you can return any time you want to. Your can see the earth getting closer and can just make out the beach and the little chapel coming into view. The seagulls are still hovering, and calling to each other. You re-enter the chapel and return to your body still resting in the circle. You stand up and stretch and make your way back out onto the beach. Outside the sailing boat is still bobbing up and down in the distance, the breeze is refreshing on your skin.

You take a path from the beach that leads back to your own room and chair.

In a moment it will be time to return to reality, leaving this magical world behind until your next visit. When you open your eyes you will feel revitalized and full of energy, you will be at ease with yourself and the universe ready to continue along your own unique path in life.

I'm now going to count slowly from 1 to 5, when I reach 5 you will open your eyes and awake feeling relaxed and refreshed. 1 .. 2 .. 3 .. 4 .. 5
