Meditation Techniques and the Benefits of Meditation

For centuries meditation has provided the pathway to enlightenment for many of the most advanced souls ever to visit this earth plane. Meditation comes in many forms and it is recognized that not all will wish, or be able, to sit in the lotus position chanting a mantra for hours on end. However, it should not be beyond any of us to devote a few minutes each day to simply block out external distractions and to focus our attention inwardly.

Perhaps listening to some soothing music, eg classical or new age, or repeating a word or phrase to oneself will quieten an overactive mind. Perhaps it is easier to blank one's mind altogether. Or to visualize an environment, real or imaginary, in as much detail as possible. Try visualizing desired happenings, your visualizations may sow the seeds of tomorrow's reality. Visualization can also include input from all the senses as well as emotional feeling.

Don't try too hard. You may find that practice makes perfect, or at least builds improvement. If your only achievement is to divert your attention towards your own mind for a few minutes each day then you have achieved something worthwhile.
